What is Micro Slide switch?
Micro Slide switches are mechanical switches that control the flow of electricity in a circuit by sliding from an open (off) position to a closed (on) position. They are often used in small projects, such as battery-powered devices, and can also be used to connect multiple circuits.
Functions and applications of Micro Slide switches
Here are some functions of micro slide switches:
On-off: Micro Slide switches are primarily used for turning devices on and off.
Select modes: Micro Slide switches can be used to select different operating modes for a device.
Connect circuits: Micro Slide switches can connect two or more circuits to an existing one.
Haptic feedback: Micro Slide switches are designed to have a clear haptic structure that indicates the on and off states.
Easy to activate: Micro Slide switches are easy to activate blindly, making them ideal for telecommunication applications.
Micro Slide switches come in different sizes, including subminiature, miniature, and standard. They can also have different terminal types, such as feed-through style, wire leads, solder terminals, and surface mount technology.
When choosing a Micro slide switch, you can consider things like:
Actuator height: The height of the actuator can affect the feel of the switch.
Travel: The distance the actuator moves when the switch is actuated.
Force: The amount of force required to move the actuator.
The Mini Slide Switch SMD 2 Positions 7Pin H1.5mm 1P2T SPDT is a surface-mount device (SMD) switch designed for use in a variety of electronic devices. The switch has two positions and is a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switch. It has a 7-pin design with a height of 1.5mm and is suitable for use in small electronic devices.
Features:
Surface-mount device (SMD) design for easy installation on a printed circuit board (PCB)
Two-position switch with a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) configuration
7-pin design with a height of 1.5mm
Miniature size for use in small electronic devices
How Does a Micro Slide Switch Work?
A Micro slide switch works by sliding a slight lever or actuator from side to side, opening and closing an electrical circuit. The actuator has a set of contacts moving inside the switch, which come together to complete a circuit or move apart to break the connection.
This very basic back-and-forth action can give the user control over electricity and allow devices to either be powered on or off or for different modes to be set under their control. What’s beautiful about a Micro slide switch is the simplicity of its mechanism: just slide the lever, and you suddenly have a changed state of a circuit.
Types of Micro Slide Switches:
Micro Slide switches are not a one-size-fits-all affair. You will find different types that suit various applications and meet your needs.
SPST: Single Pole, Single Throw.
This is the most basic type. It’s an on/off switch that only has one input and one output.
SPDT: Single Pole, Double Throw.
The slightly more complex version of a Micro slide switch allows you to choose between two different circuits.
DPST: Double Pole, Single Throw.
It controls two circuits at a time, but only in an on-or-off manner.
DPDT: Double Pole, Double Throw.
It is the most versatile, as it is of a two-circuit version but allows you to switch between them.
The many types all serve different purposes, so knowing what you’re looking for is key.
Structure of Micro Slide Switches:
Let us break down the structure of a Micro slide switch.
• Actuator: This refers to the component one moves to actuate the switch. It is generally a small lever or knob sliding back and forth.
• Contacts: They are the parts of a circuit that connect or open according to the actuator’s movements. Contacts move with the movement of an actuator, opening or closing and either allowing the flow of electricity or blocking it.
• Housing: It is the outer casing structure that binds it all together. It’s usually plastic or metal and protects the components from external elements.
• Terminals: These are the connecting points of the Micro slide switch to the circuit. Depending on the design, there can be two, three, or more terminals on a slide switch.
• Spring Mechanism: This spring, inside the Micro slide switch, helps return the actuator to its original position after movement. Every component is essential to the proper functioning of the slide switch.

Mounting of Slide Switches
How you mount a slide switch is just as important as the slide switch itself. Mounting type affects switch stability, durability, and ease of installation.
Through-Hole Mounting: This is the traditional method where the slide switch is fitted on the circuit board and soldered into place. The strong mechanical connection provided by this mounting technique gives application form factor whenever the switch could be under physical stress.
Surface Mounting: This technique involves mounting the slide switch directly on the surface of the circuit board. While allowing more compact devices for space premiums, precise soldering is required.
Panel Mounting: The slide switch is mounted directly onto a panel or enclosure, typically through screws or clips.
Micro Slide Switch Features:
Voltage&Current: 16A 12A 125VAC T125; 6.5A 250VAC T125
Contact Resistance: 100mΩ Max
Working Temperature: T125

How to Select the Right Micro Slide Switch?
The selection of the right micro slide switch can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t need to be. Here is a quick guide on how to make the right choice.
Step 1 Micro Slide Switch Function: First, know exactly what you want the slide switch to accomplish. Do you use it for device on and off, mode selection, or something else?
Step 2 Electrical Specifications: Ensure the Micro slide switch rating is suitable for handling the current and voltage requirements of the application.
Step 3 Environment: Will it be used in a dusty, wet, or harsh environment? If so, look for protection-rated switches, such as IP-rated ones.
Step 4 Mounting Method: Determine how you’ll mount the switch, whether it’s through-hole, surface mount, or panel mount.
Step 5 Termination Style: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as PC pins, screw terminals, or wire leads.
Applications of Micro Slide Switches
Micro slide switches are everywhere. Here’s where you might find them:
Consumer Electronics: Think remote controls, toys, and small gadgets.
Industrial Equipment: Often used in machinery for mode selection or emergency stops.
Settore automobilistico: Used in dashboard controls and other vehicle systems.
Home Appliances: These are common in items like coffee makers, fans, and heaters.
