Overmolded PEEK connectors are manufactured through an injection molding process where PEEK is overmolded onto the pins. With this method, the seal runs the length of the metal pin, resulting in a more durable bond than a rigid glass seal. Internal stresses in the glass seal or uneven thermal expansion of the metal contacts can cause cracks in the seal surface, leading to premature part failure. PEEK’s low glass transition temperature allows for slight deformation under pressure loads or vibration. By overmolding the metal contacts, the connectors tolerate slight mating misalignments and are less susceptible to damage from mishandling and mechanical shock during installation.
